Event Description
As circulatory conditions become more prevalent with age, older adults face an increased risk of developing non-pressure-related lower extremity wounds. Early recognition of risk factors, subtle clinical signs, and timely interventions are essential to prevent wound progression and support effective non-surgical management.

This education session explores the most common types of non-pressure-related leg wounds in older adults, identifies populations at heightened risk, and equips nurses with practical strategies to promptly assess, intervene, and manage these conditions to improve outcomes and reduce complications.

Objectives

  • Define he physiological and biochemical disorders that cause venous leg ulcers.
  • Identify characteristics of venous leg ulcers.
  • Explore the science behind compression therapy for venous leg ulcers and the swollen limbs.
  • Describe key components for management of a patient with a venous leg ulcer.
