Event Description
Pressure injuries are a common and serious concern among older adults, particularly in long-term care settings where reduced mobility and compromised nutritional status increase vulnerability. Early identification of risk factors and timely intervention are essential to prevention; however, when pressure injuries do occur, a targeted and systematic treatment approach is critical to promote healing and prevent complications.

This educational session will explore key age-related and clinical factors that contribute to pressure injury development in older adults. Participants will gain practical, evidence-based strategies for both prevention and treatment with a focus on identifying root causes, selecting appropriate interventions, and optimizing skin integrity and overall patient outcomes across care settings.

Objectives

  • Define pressure injury and what mechanical forces contribute to pressure injury development.
  • Identify the characteristics of all pressure injury stages.
  • Describe key risk factors for pressure injury development.
